i hate mitsuru so much, like bro ur not the one, the end. no need to be salty over it,also ichigo keeps lying to herself about hiro lol she just can't be honest. Also damn hiro is suffering and also a beast, he knows he can die after riding another time with zero two, yet he still decides to ride because if he doesn't he will feel like worse than dying because of that. Also being zero two's partner must be difficult af like how mitsuru said, she drains everything from you and forms some kind of parasyte in you, zero two's past partners must have died because of that or either zero two is just careless and rushes in the enemy and that caused them to die.

I don't think she's lying to herself, it seems like none of them have any clue what feelings are, they were raised in an environment that didn't teach them or show them anything to do with feelings towards others.

I was about to say. it's hints of something weird about their society that's making me stay a little longer. because they didn't even know what a kiss was, but it seems they instinctively have an idea of human conflict and emotions. they just need guidance. but clearly they are raised in a weird way. I don't get why they made them so stupid to these human emotions when the design of a franxx clearly relies on that (which leads to compatibility) or at the higher up just pumping out orphans to die by bruteforcing them to ignore incompatibilities and pretend stuff is fine till they have some good soldiers.

English doesn't have anything to do with the situation,all that the character was facing is his frend/coworker choosing death over being excluded and his partner having a mental breakdown,I didn't see him having any growth in this episode

I only mentioned Language because i assumed you were confused with what character development means. Conflict is a part of character development, through the conflict of a character we also learn more about them because we see how they'll overcome it. i count that as character development to the viewers. And idk if you've gotten any farther than this episode but believe me it shows

Ok maybe it will in future episodes but in my experience side characters in anime and even main characters rarely get developed

I only reply to this type of comment because in anime community it became trendy a few years ago to use the phrase "character development" left and right when really it's a pretty complicated thing to write for most authors and even the ones who try it fail at it most of the time

I just love how they show that each character is experiencing emotions that are brand new to them and how they cope with it crazy how this is just the 5th episode and making it sound like Hiro bout to die in the next one
